I got into an argument with my parents one night and decided that it was time for me to move out on my own. I had gotten to the age where it was time for me to leave the nest anyway. They gave me little freedom and told me that as long as I lived under their roof, I would live by their rules. I couldn’t take it anymore and started looking at luxury apartments in Mission Viejo. There was a barrier that I didn’t think about in my anger, and that was the actual price of getting an apartment. I was only working a part time job at a shipping facility and couldn’t afford to pay the cost of an apartment on my own.

I came up with a solution to my problem. I asked my friends if they wanted to rent an apartment with me as a roommate, since it would be easier to pay by splitting the cost. None of my friends were financially stable enough for that. I then turned to my cousins and asked them. One of my cousins agreed to rent an apartment with me because he was going through a similar situation with his parents and wanted to move out. It was like a perfect storm of coincidental circumstances that worked out for the both of us.

After living with my cousin for a couple of weeks, I can say that it has its good moments and bad moments. My cousin is a cool guy and he is comfortable with most things. He doesn’t get mad about things related to food or guests. He does have some bad habits that I really don’t care for though. He blasts his music a little too loud, and sometimes he’ll leave items near the garbage can without putting them in.
